Our 10th shop project, Encounters Andover opened its doors on the 14th May 2014. Open to all, the pop up shop at 91 High Street will be welcoming everyone for 5 weeks until the 15th June.
The shop is a space for dialogue and exchange where an evolving collection of memories, stories, experiences, ideas and dreams about Andover past present and future is growing.
Encounters Andover is the 10th shop set up since 2003. Other shops have been run in different places across the Uk including Sheffield, Liverpool and London.
Generating a rich snapshot of objects, text, photos the project will inform a programme of public art developments around the town and will feed into the work that Andover Town Centre Summit has been doing to improve the shape of the future town.
Encounters have employed five local artists to set up and work on the project alongside Encounters Arts. Visitors are being welcomed to the shop and encouraged to participate through a range of activities relating to Andover. As part of the project there will be a series of one-off events devised by local artists.
We will be documenting our the project with a project called Storymachine, a ‘living archive’ tool we are developing in collaboration with digital designer and associate James Engwell, and Dr Matt Hayler, Digital Humanities at Exeter University.
Please visit the Andover Shop Storymachine page, to find out more, or tell your story about Andover.
Invitations to join in will be found throughout the town. 14th May - 15th June Wed - Sat ( sunday market days) 10 - 6 91 High Street
