Talking Young Men Torbay

YOUNG_MEN_001

Encounters delivered a new Talking Young Men programme in Torbay in 2014 supported by the Arts Council and the Youth Offending Team.

The programme was led by Encounters Associate, Ben Yeger working in partnership with the Devon Based pioneering Charity Write for Freedom who are bringing creative writing and outdoor rites of passage work to the project. A group of young men on offending orders took part in the project as part of their rehabilitation plan, supported each week by a member of the Youth Offending Team. The project was co – facilitated with a member of the Youth Offending Team and built on the rich learning of the pilot project in Exeter.

Participants developed skills in active listening and non-violent communication, and used creative approaches from image theatre, theatre of the oppressed, drama therapy, creative writing, conflict resolution, outdoor learning and forest school and explored what it means to be a boy/young man in our society today.
