Encounters believe passionately in the transformative power of the arts to improve health and well being and we bring the value of creative processes to a wide variety of participants. An ethos of listening, involving and responding are embedded in all our projects. Building on the success of Ageing Well creative consultation for TCDT we worked strategically with Torbay Culture board to deliver an arts and culture on referral scoping report that led to a large-scale programme of Arts and Health activity in Torbay and South Devon including Dance for Falls Prevention, Singing for COPD, Arts for Young peoples and older peoples Mental health and wellbeing, currently being delivered. We are the co-coordinators of the new Torbay Arts and Culture Network with a focus on developing cultural commissioning opportunities for the sector.
As a member of the Torbay Culture and Arts network, Encounters has been commissioned by Torbay Culture Board and Torbay council to work across Care homes in Torbay to produce a Resident’s Rights Charter. We will be engaging and creatively consulting with care home staff, residents, families and other health and care professionals to create the charter and to find out more about how to define ‘Good Care’.
The charter will cover all aspects of living, outdoor and indoor spaces, food, activities, support, respect and all aspects of what makes people happy and resilient and through the process the project aims to increase trust and understanding between residents and staff.
Encounters companion artists, Jenny Gellatly and Kate Bowman will be mentored by Encounters Creative Associate Ruth Ben-Tovim to deliver the project. Encounters Graphic Designer Jo Salter will create the charter with animation input from Emilio Mula. We will keep you posted with this project’s progress.
