Encounters was commissioned by St Peters Parish Church Council to
devise and deliver a creative consultation & involvement
project. The church had recently been pulled down, and the aim was
to involve local people in the decision of how to use the land in
the future.
The project lasted for six months, and the process involved a range
of street based arts interventions, viewfinder workshops that
gathered the opinions from 8 diverse groups, and large scale
community events. Those involved included tenants & residents
associations, faith groups, and local primary and secondary schools.
By the end of the project, a strong community stakeholder group was
created. This represented a wide range of people of different ages
and cultures who would sustain that dialogue, fundraise and take the
project forward to its next stage. These 11 people were voted onto a
new management committee which will determine the future of the St
Peters Site.
